External Ornaments
The shield set within decorative cartouche ornamentation in the ecclesiastical manner.
Shield
Gules, upon a base barry wavy of four Argent and Azure a well Or masoned Sable, surmounted by a palm branch Vert and a quill Argent in saltire; in dexter chief Or a representation of the parish church proper; in sinister chief Azure the Marian monogram “AM” Argent ensigned with a crown Or; in chief overall a rope noose Or pendent.
Inscription
Around the arms, the title “San Lorenzo Ruiz Parish – Tisa, Cebu City,” and in base the year “1987.”
Crest (ecclesiastical device)
A sun in splendor Or charged with the Christogram “IHS” Gules.


The Marian Symbol
Signifies the Blessed Virgin Mary. It recalls Saint Lorenzo Ruiz’s devotion to Our Lady, particularly as a member of the Confraternity of the Most Holy Rosary, which he fervently prayed even during his imprisonment.
Church Structure
Represents the present physical edifice of the parish, symbolizing the living Church — both the sacred building and the community of believers it shelters.



The Water, Well, and Rope Knot
Allude to the martyrdom of Saint Lorenzo Ruiz in Nagasaki, Japan. These elements recall the tsurushi method of torture, in which he was suspended upside down over a pit. This imagery reflects his unwavering faith amid suffering and his ultimate witness to Christ.


The Quill
Represents Saint Lorenzo Ruiz’s profession as an escribano (clerk) and his service as a messenger for the Dominican Order prior to his missionary journey to Japan.
The traditional emblem of martyrdom, signifying victory through sacrifice and fidelity unto death.
The Palm Branch

The Year 1987
At the base of the shield appears the year 1987, marking a significant milestone in the parish’s establishment and history.
